Renewable Industry developments in response to COVID-19

Last month I reported an uptick in demand for human capital in renewables, and July is no different. We have increased activity in our active accounts as well as increased inbound leads for recruitment proposals. Both great signs for job growth in Q3-2020! I hope that I can write the same for August but I'm also a little concerned about COVID-19 heating up again in many states.

Let's talk about the rest of the industry for a minute, as some factors can certainly turn around job growth. From my point of view, I can see that Q2-2020 delays in project development and construction have been mostly resolved. Obviously, recruiting is picking up again as well, but I'm still hearing many stories about residual supply chain constraints in equipment procurement. We've seen this before in solar and now are wondering -- how many projects will miss this year's construction season because of it? How many projects will miss the 2020 tax credit because of it? Will there be another pandemic relief bill to extend tax credit extensions? The answers to these questions will certainly have an affect on the overall health of our industry, and of course, hiring in clean energy.

What are we working on? Less manufacturing and more project development, engineering, construction, and O&M. But not just in wind and solar. Increasingly more, we're in discussions and engagements with project developers, independent power producers, and private equity and infrastructure funds that are starting to diversify more outside of wind and solar. Battery energy storage, anaerobic digestion (biogas, landfill gas, waste-to-energy), biomass, carbon capture, compressed air energy storage, and of course, really unique distributed energy projects. If you're hiring project development or energy asset management professionals or looking for your next job in your cleaner energy career, reach out to us today.
