The Marketer’s Outlook

This month, I'm wearing a different hat for my Recruiter’s Outlook, the marketing one. While I have 25 years of executive recruiting experience, I’m also fascinated by marketing; it brings out my creative side, so I’m always working in parallel on developing that area of the business as well. I take great pride in building the EnergeiaWorks brand, from every conference handshake to every element of digital marketing to the many solar backpacks with our logo that we’ve given out over the years.  My philosophy is that if you market the right way to the right people, then the right sales come to you. And this philosophy also applies to my recruiting style, which focuses on the right approach to the right candidates, removing any need for some of the high-pressure sales tactics that are often used in the field.

Keeping The Clean Energy Conversation Moving

Think back to our industry in 2016. Google made a big announcement that they plan to run on 100% renewable energy. Block Island Wind Farm became the first commercial offshore wind farm in the United States. We had renewed tax credits via the PATH Act for wind energy and the Consolidated Appropriations Act for solar energy. And Renewables UnWind was born!

What started as a casual after-work drink in Manhattan with some solar friends quickly became a regular monthly event in New York City.  EnergeiaWorks opened a few co-working offices in the US and Canada to support our growing team of remote staff, so we expanded Renewables UnWind to those cities. Our first year of Renewables UnWind also brought partnerships with American Solar Energy Society (ASES) and Intersolar, hosting a San Francisco event after the Intersolar North America conference sessions; and a collaboration with Solar Power International to host an event in Las Vegas.

Over the course of our nine year history, Renewables UnWind has partnered with RE+ (and formerly Solar Power International), Solar Energy Industries Association, American Clean Power (and formerly AWEA), Intersolar, Solar & Storage Live, Energy Storage Canada, Midwest Solar Expo, ASES, New Project Media, Solar & Energy Storage Association of Puerto Rico, Wall Street Green Summit, and New York Energy Week.

August Conference?

Yup.  In fact, two!  While booking my August travel, I was pretty certain that I never had an August business trip, and my curiosity led me to dig through the archives. I was wrong. In 2017, I went to Energy Storage North America in San Diego (now part of Intersolar).  Regardless of the rare conference travel in August, I’m excited about two new shows and partnerships for Renewables UnWind.

Next week, I’ll be heading to Chicago for the Solar Farm Summit (co-located with the EPA’s Brownfields 2025) to host Renewables UnWind after a packed agenda on agrivoltaics. See the Upcoming Events section below for more information.

Then, I’m off to Fort Lauderdale for The Energy Expo (co-located with The Water Expo), with a focus on the Caribbean and Latin American markets. Use code UNWIND50 to get 50% off your Energy Expo conference registration. After some bilingual energy sessions we’ll be hosting Renewables UnWind after hours at the B Ocean Hotel.

All told, we’ve hosted 30,000 renewable energy professionals across 25 different cities in North America over the last nine years. Yeah, we like to unwind and throw back a couple of drinks after a day of panel discussions and keynote speakers, but some serious conversations also happen at Renewables UnWind. As a field dedicated to the progressive and practical investment in renewable energy, we’ve endured some serious threats to our industry in the 14 years I’ve been part of it. I’ve written about the termination of production and investment tax credits, supply chain shortages or abundance of product, forced labor in solar manufacturing factories, and the dismal regression from both of the Trump administrations.

And right now, in this industry, we need to support each other more than ever. According to E2, in June alone, $6B worth of clean energy projects have been cancelled (5,300 jobs!) because of the new anti-clean energy legislation coming into effect.  We need state governments, industry lobbyists, and YOU to keep the clean energy conversation moving forward.  Join me and our colleagues and thought leaders at a Renewables UnWind and let’s figure out how we win in these conditions.
