Plant and Wetlands Ecologist

The Botanist and/or Wetlands ecologist will spend time both in the field and in the office with the firm’s team of professionals. Field work may include plant community mapping, rare plant surveys, and wetland assessments and delineations, and oversight of fieldwork crews. The botanists contribute to and write biological resource reports and natural resource management plans, habitat restoration plans, and develop regulatory agency permit applications. Completion of these tasks are guided by the senior team, and collaboration with our other groups

Responsibilities
  • Perform rare plant work in serpentine habitats, oak woodlands and marshlands of the Bay Area.
  • Procure regulatory permits for restoration projects and projects with detrimental impacts to regulated habitats.
  • Support teams in project design to minimize and avoid impacts to sensitive resources.
  • Work on unique projects with differing challenges.
  • Consulting experience with CEQA analysis and regulatory permitting.
  • Project management experience greatly preferred, must be ready to jump from staff-level consulting to project management.
Desired qualifications
  • Academic background with emphasis in botany, plant/wetlands ecology, and delineation.
  • A relevant M.S. or higher graduate degree desired.
  • Collaborative and communicative mindset and ability.
  • Exceptional data handling and organizational ability.
  • Proven technical writing capabilities.
  • Directly related consulting experience.
  • Flora identification skills specifically related to Californian plant life.
  • Prior ecological consulting firm experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Plan.
  • Completion of a 40-hour wetland delineation or equivalent.
  • Background in rangeland management.
