Project Engineer

As Project Engineer, you will lead the interconnection efforts of utility scale generation and support  with knowledge and ideas around the transmission system. You will oversee generator interconnection application from preparation, to submission, shepherding through the process, and finally through GIA negotiations in concert with legal department. As Project Engineer, you will create and review site layout drawings and single line drawings using various software packages such as Rated Power, AutoCAD, and Anderson Optimization.

Key Accountabilities and Duties

  • Preparation and submission of Generation Interconnection Agreement (GIA) applications to variety of Independent System Operators (ISO), Regional Transmission Organization (RTO), and individual utilities
  • Primary point of contact and oversee process for GIA applications; responsible to obtain content, prepare GIA applications, submit applications, and oversee entire process until GIA is approved
  • PSS/E and other model work for applications are currently prepared through external contractors. Knowledge of PSS/E not necessary but considered a bonus
  • Stay informed on ISO (MISO/PJM/SPP/NYISO/ERCOT/etc.) tariffs, interconnection rules and regulations
  • Assist renewable energy site identification and assessment.
  • Create layout drawings and single line drawings.
  • Support project design and manage third party engineering activities.
  • Support and manage procurement activities for renewable energy projects.
  • Support CapEx and OpEx build-up for renewable energy projects.
  • Create and track schedules for renewable energy project activities.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in the power industry
  • Utility interconnection processes.
  • Submitting GIA applications.
  • Reliability modeling and transmission planning
  • Interacting with Federal, State, and local regulators, agencies, and regulatory processes (e.g. FERC, ISO’s, RTO’s, regulated utilities Electric Coop’s, etc.).
  • Renewable technologies and energy storage:
  • Ability to create site layout drawings, single line drawings, and select equipment to create a 30% package
  • Fundamental knowledge of power engineering principals, applicable codes, and standards.
  • Apply engineering skills to balance reliability, cost, and performance.
  • Well versed in software and willingness to learn new software packages. Use .kml, .kmz, GPS mapping to enter project sites into software packages.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including Project, Word, Excel and document management systems. Familiarity with Power modeling software is a plus.
