Job Description

As a Senior Civil and Structural Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the company’s civil and structural activities. This position will be split between civil/structural engineering responsibilities and project engineering responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a small team of other civil and mechanical engineers
  • Present technical analysis and data in reports, summarize key findings and make appropriate recommendations for project optimization
  • Identify project risks and provide recommendations to mitigate risks
  • Maintain and develop processes and best practices for quality control
  • Continuous improvement of engineering and management policies and procedures
  • Liaise with clients and address questions and/or concerns utilizing technical data and industry knowledge
  • Creating, coordinating and supervising geotechnical and pile test programs
  • Review and interpretation of geotechnical and pile test reports
  • Technical and commercial analysis of various equipment such as solar racking and tracker systems, steel piles, concrete foundations and roads
  • Create technology comparisons and cost analysis towards optimization for lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE)
  • Conducting Design Reviews on steel piles (driven and helical), racking/trackers and project civil works
  • Prepare Design Basis Documents (DBD) and Scope of Work (SoW) for use in EPC documents (for all civil and structural components of the solar project)
  • Review and coordination of Civil and Structural Design activities
  • Create and review constraints maps using GIS/CAD, with inputs from environmental, utility, transportation, municipal and other governing bodies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Registration or ability to be registered with APEGA
  • 10+ years industry experience; with strong preference given to those with power generation and/or renewables experience or exposure
  • 4+ years in a project environment
  • Project Management experience; PMP designation preferred
  • 3+ years of leadership experience
  • 2+ years experience with LPILE pile analysis software-secondary education in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and/or Project/Construction Management
  • Experience or exposure to cut and fill analysis using Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent
  • Project management skills including best practices, leadership, planning, scheduling, budgeting, technical analysis, reporting, etc.
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards within the power industry, preferably within renewable energy
  • Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling, budgeting and tracking, with ability to develop and use financial and non-financial metrics and targets to ensure successful project completion
